Chef and Festival Culinary Director Peter Kuruvita returns from Sri Lanka—where he currently serves as Head Judge on MasterChef Sri Lanka—to open The Curated Plate 2026 with an immersive cultural dining experience inspired by the island nation. Collaborating with Alsahwa Estate Head Chef Mal Meiers, this special event celebrates heritage, flavour and performance.
Inspired by the Sri Lankan concepts of Gini (fire) and Gewa (rhythm), the afternoon will weave together food, storytelling and spectacle, featuring performances by the Sri Lankan Dance Foundation, including a traditional Devil Mask dancer from Melbourne.
Set within the tranquil gardens of Alsahwa Estate, guests will be welcomed on arrival with a curated Sunshine Son’s cocktail, accompanied by a traditional Sri Lankan dance performance.
As drums begin to beat, the experience builds in energy with a live kottu roti demonstration by Peter Kuruvita, where cooking utensils become percussion instruments. This playful and theatrical moment leads into a high‑energy, immersive drumming performance by a Sri Lankan drumming orchestra.
Guests will then be invited to take their seats to enjoy a four-course shared feast, inspired by Peter’s family recipes and designed to bring people together through his signature spice-forward cooking. The afternoon concludes with a striking traditional Devil Mask performance, providing a powerful and memorable finale.
